The Midwest Independent Film Festival had an amazing night as the motif was Female Filmmakers. On Tuesday October 1st, people gathered at Landmark’s Century Centre Cinema to watch, digest, and discuss nine short films all directed by women. Before the movies went onscreen; there was a producer panel to dissect how to «smash the patriarchy» from three women producers; Erica Weiss (filmmaker), Erica Duffy (owner of Camera Ambassador), and Jennifer Reeder (artists, filmmaker, and screenwriter). Inclusivity and representation in front and behind the camera were prominent ways to dismantle the patriarchy; and starting with Chicago due to its growing and robust film scene can change how every city looks at film.
Last night, one of the short films The Follower with former Chicago PD actor Jon Seda and Chicago Fire’s Kara Killmer played. The Follower explores a family who lives in a small town where it’s not as peachy as it looks. On the journey to find their own voices we see Mary (Kara Killmer) and her daughter take us through an emotional rollercoaster of never silencing your voice and finding a way to speak up and leave a violent situation. The BAM team handled the audio post production which included, sound mixing, sound design, and recording ADR for the short film. BAM was honored to work with Patricia Frontain, the director of «The Follower» and founder of the organization Patrick Lives On.
A night of laughter, sadness, hope, and creativity. The Female Filmmakers debuted films that left an impact in the room. To find more movies we have worked on; check out https://bit.ly/2pk0FTb
